I am writing this under eye patterns because I feel people will look here first if they feel the same way I did when reading this article. To be not 100%, but 200% clear, NOT MAKING EYE CONTACT DOESNT NOT MEAN YOU ARE A LIAR ! That is the single biggest myth in the hisotry of lying myths. Ask any REAL expert, from Dr. Paul Ekman to any doctor studying body langyage that just finished Medical School ! It simply is a lie ! If you break eye contact, it actually points more toward the truth than a lie. (notice I say "breaking" eye contact, not "not making" eye contact. A person who is telling the truth will break away from the person questioning them because he needs to think about what he has said. During this crucial time, you should be using lie detection techniques to decide if he is lieing or not, such as the direction he is looking or muscle movements around the eyes.) People think that making eye contact means your telling the truth, but actually, it points more toward the fact that the liar wants to look at you to see if you believed the lie! In addition, the fact that the liar has probably heard this ridiculous rumor, he may even look at you more ! All in all, Im trying to tell the readers that it is not about if you make direct eye contact or not (although some eye contact is impotant and BREAKING eye contact to recall a thought is a sign of the truth) but it is about the microexpresions you make that point to the truth.

Joe Smith, you have obviously studied Dr. Paul Ekman's work to a greater extent then I have. Just to be clear, I did not state ANYWHERE in my articles that breaking eye contact is an unambiguous sign of lying. If you were not trying to prove me wrong, then thank you for informing everyone who will read your comment.

Ever since I was a child I have found it difficult to maintain eye contact, I have a tendency to watch a persons lips when they're speaking even though my hearing is fine. I don't know why this is, but after reading your article I can't help wondering how this may have been perceived by others. Any thoughts on the subject?

I have found that when someone is trying to think of a sound they will not only look to the right but they will also slightly tilt thier head in the detection of which they heard the sound. This theory also applies to when someone is remebering the texture of something they will move thire hands to the part of the body the felt it with or they will rub their fingers together in order to recreate the feeling of the object as they touched it.

Spent ten minutes under water, at age two. Always look to the right, truth or lie. Right handed. Had a lot of trouble with police thinking I was lying when younger. Eyes dont dilate right when they shine light in them. Is a difference in the way they dilate, but only had one police man notice. He told me I had a childhood bain injury without me telling him anything. They would hold me on the side of the road for thirty to forty-five minutes, but always let me go. Just curious what you thought. Thanks.
